Hey everyone! So, since I've been at Trinity I have been able to experience a lot. Hang out with new people, see new places, try new things. But to me nothing can compare to the life I lived back home in Hawai'i. My favorite thing to do back home was to go to Sandy beach and bodysurf, here's a YouTube video of that exact surf spot:
Here in Texas there is nothing compared to riding a strong wave that breaks into 5-6 inches of water. But a part of going to college is experiencing new things, and that's what I've been able to do here at Trinity. The riverwalk in San Antonio is beautiful and there is definitely nothing like it in Hawai'i. I also got to visit my friends family's farm, the drive there was beautiful and I had never been on a farm before. I saw different types of animals, country roads, and miles of farmland, it was wonderful. I'm definitely glad that I chose Trinity because I wouldn't be able to experience what I've seen so far here in Texas.
Mahalo and Aloha!

Friends
Hello everybody! This post will be about friends from here, and friends from home. One of the toughest things people are faced with when coming to college are finding new people to hang out with. Trinity makes it easy for you by pairing you with a roommate who they think will suit your lifestyle best, and by having an awesome orientation that lasts a week where you get to find people you fit in with. Surely I miss my friends back home, but I haven't found awesome people here at Trinity who I love to be with. This is a picture of some of my friends back home after our prom:

Friends are what make life easier, they're people to talk to, hang out with, and just take you out of school mode for a bit. My friends and I here at Trinity also try to find something new and fun to do. They are funny, unpredictable, and awesome. Without them I don't know what I'd be doing with my down time and I couldn't be happier to be friends with them.
In these first weeks of college we've gone out to dinner, went to a friend's farm, seen movies, partied, and just chilled out in each other's rooms. Here's a picture from a birthday dinner:

Punahou Baseball to Trinity Baseball
Sup everybody! So, as I said before this blog is about my transition from life in Hawai'i to my new life here in Texas. A big part of what I did in Hawai'i was baseball, and I am continuing to do so here. I played baseball at Punahou High School where I got to be a part of 3 state championships to amass to a total of 7 straight state titles. Here is a picture of me in my junior year:
Playing college baseball has been one of my goals since I started playing when I was 4. I was debating whether or not I wanted to play after high school, but when I got accepted at Trinity and made it out here I pretty much got sucked back in. We as players are in the weight room every day as well as on the field and for me it is a great way to step outside of school life. The atmosphere out on the field is awesome and everyone is working hard. As a pitcher we work on strengthening our arms and help each other develop their motion as well as the pitches we throw.
Soon enough fall ball will be starting and we'll be split up into two teams. We play each other each week until the fall world series and from what I hear the competition gets heated. Because we're starting so soon, pitchers have been allowed to start throwing bullpens (which is a blessing!). In order to evaluate myself I had a friend record my bullpen with his iPhone and emailed it to myself. Here's a clip from today:

Introduction
Whatsup! My name is Jacob Ellis from Oahu, Hawai'i, and I am a student at Trinity University. This blog will be about my journey from a small island to the big state of Texas. Here you will find posts about my life here at Trinity compared to the life I lived in Hawai'i. You will find pictures, videos, and music that pertain to island life, as well as stories about my transition to a new setting. Feel free to comment and ask questions (which I will be glad to answer) about anything you find on this page.
From day one I've had an excellent time here at TU, it is very similar to the high school I went to and if you would like to find out about that school you can click here and browse around. One of my favorite things to do in Hawai'i is bodysurf, here's a photo of my brother and I fooling around in the water:
This is one of the things I miss most about home, but not as much as I miss my family and friends. Moving to Texas was a hard decision to make, but I don't regret it at all. So far I am glad that I've come here and have met some great people who have made the transition that much easier.
Check back later for a new blog post!
